HANDSPRING DESIGN

Handspring Design is an award winning, designer-maker practice specialising in sculptural timber structures, shelters, seating and creative spaces.

We operate with a strong environmental and social agenda and are committed to using local resources and natural materials where possible. Native timbers – mainly oak and douglas fir – provide our primary material, but steel, stone and glass all have a part to play and are often incorporated into our designs.

We hand-build all our designs at our workshop in Sheffield’s Ecclesall Woods, and personally install the final work throughout the UK.

For 12 years Handspring Design have been creating sculptural wooden structures for school grounds,hospital gardens, parks and public spaces. We use native wood species appropriate for the British climate with Oak being the species. We hand make steam bent and glue laminated curved wood beams which we use to create our distinctive aesthetic.

We have recently been commissioned by private clients to design and build for their homes. This has seen us design sun lounges, curved staircase made from reclaimed pitch pine, a Victorian style green house, tree houses, green roofed garden rooms and benches.

Our work blends traditional wood working skills with the best that modern techniques and materials can offer. Our aim is to deliver functionality with great looks.
